Austin Dillon (2015)

There are just some big ones that take your breath away and this was one of them. In fact, race winner, Dale Earnhardt jr even shouted obscenities into his radio after watching the entire wreck unfold in his rear view mirror. It also was a scary moment for car owner, Richard Childress, witness his grandson, Austin Dillon, take a wild ride into the catch fence that separates the cars from the spectators.

The incident occurred in the tri-oval, where Kevin Harvick got into Denny Hamlin and sent him spinning in front of oncoming traffic. Hamlin then made contact with the #3 of Austin Dillon, which sent Dillon spiraling into the catch fence. Drivers immediately tried to scandal to avoid the carnage in front of them, but many were unsuccessful. Dillon’s car then skidded down the track on its roof and came to rest with the front and back end missing on the apron.

Crew members from multiple teams ran towards Dillon’s car to make sure he was not injured in the crash, and Dillon was eventually greeted by a standing ovation once he climbed from his car.  All of the other drivers involved in the incident were uninjured as well, but the wreck was a reminder of just how dangerous plat racing can be, especially on the last lap of such a crucial race.
