2000 Budweiser Shootout

This race was back when they still ran just 25 laps, like the old Busch Clash days. Once again Dale Jarrett would use his winning ways to make a final lap pass in one of the best runs to the finish we’ve seen in the Shootout.

There were about six cars that had a shot at winning as the cars crossed under the white flag. Sterling Marlin led the field for most of the second half of the race while drivers behind him calculated their final lap moves. On the back stretch Jeff Gordon dove the No. 24 Chevrolet to the bottom of the race track, nearly into the grass, and tried to pass Marlin and nearly had him cleared by the time they hit turn 3. Jarrett cleared Gordon off of the final corner and beat the field to the checkered flag while a wild wreck ensued behind them, including Jarrett’s teammate flipping upside down across the front stretch.

This was the second of Jarrett’s three Bud Shootout victories and his first to feature a last lap pass for the victory.
