It’s no secret that NASCAR has been on the decline in recent years. A quick look at the most valuable teams in NASCAR in 2017 shows a consistent drop in value across the board.

Times might not be as tough in NASCAR today as they were back in the day, but that doesn’t mean that NASCAR is thriving right now by any means. The top-10 teams in NASCAR heading into 2017 are worth an average of $137 million. While that seems like a lot it is actually a 7% drop from the average worth of the top-10 teams in the sport from the start of the 2016 season.

The 7% drop in average worth of the top teams equals the 7% drop in TV viewership from the 2015 season to the 2016 season. According to a recent report from Forbes.com, NASCAR averaged 4.6 million viewers per race in 2016. The article also points out that one stretch of races in 2016 saw viewership drop 11% from 2015 and eight races in 2016 posted their lowest ratings for NASCAR since 2001.

Despite the lower numbers, NASCAR’s top teams are still worth a bunch.
