As of his retirement announcement, Dale Earnhardt Jr. had 18 races to win and make the playoffs. Which of those races can he win?

After eight races in the 2017 season, Dale Earnhardt Jr. announced he would be retiring from NASCAR at the conclusion of the season. That left Earnhardt Jr. with a total of 26 races in his NASCAR career and 18 of those races where if he won, he would earn a spot in the NASCAR playoff and a chance for his first career championship in his final season.

Last season, Tony Stewart returned to racing after missing the first eight races of the season after injuring his back in an all-terrain vehicle accident. Similar to Earnhardt Jr., Stewart had 26 races left in his NASCAR Cup Series career and needed a win in the first 18 of those races to earn a spot in the postseason.

Stewart won in dramatic fashion, bumping Denny Hamlin out of the way in the last turn on the last lap at Sonoma Raceway, a win that would ultimately guarantee his spot in the playoffs.

Earnhardt Jr. has multiple opportunities to find victory lane before the NASCAR playoffs start and unlike Tony Stewart from 2016 and Kyle Busch in 2015, who missed the first 11 races, Earnhardt Jr. already has the first eight races of the season under his belt.

Let’s take a look at five race tracks where Earnhardt Jr. has the best chance of winning and earning a spot in NASCAR’s playoffs.
