The 15th race of the 2017 IndyCar season is officially in the books. With just two of the 17 races remaining, how are the championship standings shaping out?

Coming off of the 15th race of the 2017 IndyCar season at Gateway, Josef Newgarden is still on top of the championship standings.

Newgarden drives for Team Penske, the team that owns four of the drivers currently in the top 5 in the standings; the other team represented in the top 5 is Chip Ganassi Racing.

Newgarden maintained his lead in the championship standings by winning the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Illinois.

As of now, it would appear as though the championship battle will come down to the drivers currently in the top 4 in the standings.

Newgarden did stretch his lead over Scott Dixon from 18 points to 31 points, but 31 points is not a huge gap, especially with the season finale at Sonoma season paying double points.

All four of the top 4 drivers are within just 43 points of each other, while Will Power, who wrecked after starting from pole on the initial start of the race at Gateway, sits in 5th place in the standings 40 points behind Simon Pagenaud, who sits in 4th.
