In an effort to be nostalgic on this “Throwback Thursday”, let’s turn back time an entire decade and recap the 2007 Indy Racing League (IRL) season.

Keep in mind this is one year prior to the Champ Car merger that happened before the 2008 season. This is entirely an Indy Racing League climate. The season consisted of 17 races, including five road and street courses and 12 ovals. This is almost entirely different than the 2018 schedule which is comprised of six ovals and 11 road and street courses.

The 2007 season introduced tracks such as Iowa, Mid-Ohio, and Belle Isle to the schedule. 100% Ethanol was also first used in the 2007 season, the first time ever by a major racing series. All statistics have been retrieved from IndyCar.com.

I will follow next week with a 2007 Champ Car season recap. I will try to capture the tracks, drivers, and drama into a compressed easy-to-read format.
