Niece Motorsports will expand to two full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series teams in 2018 with Justin Fontaine in the #45 Chevrolet.

Concerns were growing at the end of the 2017 season that the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series was on life support. Brad Keselowski Racing shut its doors, while Kyle Busch Motorsports may be downsizing with Christopher Bell moving to the Xfinity Series. Fortunately, though, teams are stepping up, with Niece Motorsports the first to confirm an expansion.

After announcing that Austin Wayne Self will drive full-time for the team in 2018, Niece Motorsports plans to expand to two trucks next year. Justin Fontaine has now joined the team, racing full-time in the #45 Chevrolet next season. The team will run with the support of AM Racing, who previously fielded entries for both Self and Fontaine in 2016 and 2017. It will be Fontaine’s first full season in a NASCAR national touring series, but no word yet if he will be eligible for rookie of the year.

Fontaine had this to say about racing full-time in the Camping World Truck Series in 2018, according to ESPN:

"“This is an exciting time in my career and I believe I’m ready for this next challenge with Niece Motorsports. I know I have a lot to learn, but with the leadership of Niece Motorsports and the support of my management team at AM Racing, I believe I can transition well and produce some good results in my rookie season.”"

United States military veteran Al Niece, who started the team, is equally as excited to bring Fontaine aboard for the new year:

"“We are thrilled to have Justin join the team next season. In speaking with Justin, his excitement for the 2018 season is contagious. As a group we are really looking forward to getting this season started. There’s a lot of work to be done, but we have a solid group who’s ready to hit the ground running.”"

More from Camping World Truck Series

Prior to earning a full-time ride at Niece Motorsports, Fontaine competed part-time in the ARCA Racing Series and the K&N Pro Series East, but sat out much of 2017 with a back injury sustained in the ARCA season opener at Daytona. He returned to competition in June, back in the ARCA series at Elko Speedway in Minnesota.

With Fontaine joining Niece, it appears AM Racing’s existence as a standalone team is finished, at least for now. Originally, the team had partnered with Win-Tron Racing in 2017 to field two ARCA and two Camping World Truck Series entries, but the Truck teams became part-time entries. This may have been tied in part to Fontaine’s injuries, or perhaps also to a lack of funding. Nonetheless, it does not appear that the #22 and #32 Toyotas will be back on track in 2018.
