IndyCar: Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to field two cars in Indianapolis 500
By Asher Fair
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are set to field two cars in the 2018 Indianapolis 500, which will likely be their lone IndyCar race this year.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing are set to field two cars in the 2018 Indianapolis 500 for the first time since discontinuing their full-time operation in IndyCar following the 2012 season. In each of the five Indianapolis 500 races since they, they have entered only one car in the race.
In the 2013 season, Oriol Servia drove for the team in the Indianapolis 500. In the 2014, 2016 and 2017 seasons, Sage Karam drove for the team in the Indianapolis 500. In the 2015 season, Townsend Bell drove for the team in the Indianapolis 500.
Here is what Dreyer & Reinbold Racing team owner Dennis Reinbold about fielding two cars in this year’s edition of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing”, according to Motorsport.com.
"“I can’t say who we’ve signed, but they’re both excellent drivers, especially at Indy. Like I said back then, I’m sure Danica [Patrick] will be good, but it’s not as if we waited for her move. We kept on with our program and I’m happy with our lineup – very happy.”"
Reinbold has confirmed that the team have signed not one but two drivers for the Indianapolis 500 already, although he has not said which two drivers have signed. However, it doesn’t seem like it will be too hard to guess who these drivers are.
In addition to Danica Patrick, who has since been signed by Ed Carpenter Racing for the race, which is set to be her final IndyCar race, Oriol Servia, Sage Karam and J.R. Hildebrand are the three drivers who Dreyer & Reinbold Racing have been looking at potentially signing.

With Servia likely to land at Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing in their third car for the fifth year and second year in a row, that leaves just Karam and Hildebrand.
Karam is pretty much a no-brainer. He has driven for the team in the race in three of the last four seasons, only not doing so in 2015 when he had what was close to a full-time ride with Chip Ganassi Racing. Expect him to drive for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing again in the Indianapolis 500 this year.
Hildebrand would also make a lot of sense. Ed Carpenter Racing, the team he has driven for in each of the last four Indianapolis 500 races, have never fielded more than three cars in an IndyCar race. Danica Patrick is set to drive their third car in this year’s Indianapolis 500, so Hildebrand likely won’t end up there. With Dreyer & Reinbold having shown interest and Hildebrand and being set to field two cars in the race, that is likely where he will end up.
