NASCAR Cup Series: Can Kevin Harvick win his fourth race in a row at Fontana?
By Asher Fair
Kevin Harvick has won each of the last three NASCAR Cup Series races. Can he win his fourth in a row at Auto Club Speedway this Sunday?
Kevin Harvick enters this Sunday’s Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California having won every non-Daytona 500 race of the 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season so far. His three-race winning streak includes wins in Atlanta, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
Harvick will look to win his fourth consecutive Cup Series race this weekend, which is something that he has never been able to do before. However, the driver of the #4 Stewart-Haas Racing Ford had never won three races in a row prior to his win at Phoenix this past Sunday.
Prior to winning in Atlanta and Las Vegas, Harvick had won two races in a row four times throughout his Cup Series career, which began back in the 2001 season when he replaced the legendary Dale Earnhardt following his death in a crash in the 2001 Daytona 500.
However, Harvick was never able to win three races in a row following any of those two-race winning streaks, although he did finish in 2nd place twice in the races that immediately followed those four streaks.

At Phoenix this past Sunday, however, that was a different story. For the first time in his Cup Series career, Harvick sealed his third consecutive victory, which came in the form of his ninth career Cup Series win at ISM Raceway.
Is a fourth straight victory for Harvick possible this weekend in Fontana? Only eight drivers have ever accomplished this historic feat, with Jimmie Johnson doing so most recently when he won in Martinsville, Atlanta, Texas and Phoenix in the 2007 season.
In 24 career Cup Series races at Fontana, Harvick has solid, but not extraordinary, statistics. He won the race in the 2011 season, and he has finished in 2nd place in two of the last three races at the track in 2015 and 2016. He has an average finish of 15.04 at the track, and 176 of his 237 career laps led there have come in the last two seasons.
However, Harvick was not nearly as dominant at Phoenix last Sunday as he was in his victories at Atlanta and Las Vegas, when he led 395 of the combined 592 laps in those races. At Phoenix, he led just 38 of the race’s 312 laps.
Harvick enters this weekend’s race at a track he has not been spectacular at with a huge target on a his back. Having never won more than two races in a row until last week, the odds that the 18-year Cup Series veteran can double his career-long winning streak in the matter of an eight-day span seems a bit far-fetched.
