Jean-Eric Vergne took the checkered flag in the sixth race of the 2017-2018 Formula One season, the Punta del Esta ePrix in Uruguay.

Jean-Eric Vergne entered the sixth race of the 2017-2018 Formula E season as the leader of the championship standings by 12 points over second place Felix Rosenqvist having not finished outside of the top 5 through the first five races of the season.

Vergne added his sixth consecutive top 5 finish to open up the season in the Punta del Este ePrix at Punta del Este Street Circuit in Punta del Este, Uruguay.

He did so with his second win of the season to expand his lead in the standings to 30 points over Rosenqvist, who finished the race in 5th place and is the only other driver who has won more than one race so far this season.

Vergne, who drives for Techeetah, held off 2016-2017 Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi, who drives for Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler, by 0.447 seconds when they crossed the finish line at the conclusion of the 37-lap race around the 20-turn, 1.7-mile street circuit.

Prior to his 2nd place finish, di Grassi had not finished a race higher than 9th so far this season as the reigning champion. In fact, through six of this season’s 12 scheduled races, six-sevenths of his point total are from this 2nd place effort.
