Formula E: Standings after 2018 Punta del Este ePrix in Uruguay
By Asher Fair
The sixth of 12 races on the 2017-2018 Formula E schedule is in the books. How do the sport’s team and driver standings look?
Following the sixth of 12 races in the 2017-2018 Formula E season, the race that marked the halfway point of the schedule, not much changed toward the top of the driver and team standings. However, there was definitely still some movement throughout the field.
Jean-Eric Vergne won his second race of the season around the 20-turn, 1.7-mile Punta del Este Street Circuit in Punta del Este, Uruguay in the 37-lap Punta del Este ePrix.
Vergne’s victory gave him two wins in the last three races. In doing so, he more than doubled his lead in the driver standings over second place Felix Rosenqvist, who is the only other driver with more than one victory so far this season.

Heading into the Punta del Este ePrix, Vergne led the driver standings by 12 points over Rosenqvist. Following the race, he now leads by 30, which is a total that is mathematically impossible to make up in a single race. Just six races remain on the 2017-2018 season’s schedule.
Vergne drives for Techeetah, the team that tripled their lead in the team standings over Mahindra Racing thanks to his victory. Their lead rose from nine points to 27 points, as Rosenqvist was the only driver who scored points for Mahindra Racing with his 5th place finish.
Perhaps most notably, defending Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi came into the Punta del Este ePrix in 19th place in the driver standings with just three points. However, thanks to his 2nd place finish in the race, he shot up to a 10th place tie in the standings with 21 points.
