NASCAR Cup Series: Driver Power Rankings after 2018 Auto Club 400 at Fontana
By Asher Fair
Five races of the 36-race 2018 NASCAR Cup Series season are now in the books. Which drivers rank where in the driver power rankings?
After an eight-win season in 2017 during which he won his first career NASCAR Cup Series championship and more than doubled his career Cup Series win total for the second consecutive season, Martin Truex Jr. finally rolled to victory lane in the 2018 season. He did so in the season’s fifth race.
Truex Jr.’s victory in his #78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota in the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California was his first win of the season as well as Furniture Row Racing’s first win of the season, which makes sense given the fact that they are a one-car full-time team again after fielding two full-time entries last season for the first time in their history.
Truex Jr.’s victory was also the first win for a Toyota driver in the 2018 season. One Chevrolet driver has won a race so far this season, with that being Austin Dillon, who won the Daytona 500 in his #3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet.
One Ford driver has won a race so far this season as well, with that being Kevin Harvick, who has actually won three races so far this season in Atlanta, Las Vegas and Phoenix, respectively.
Here are the NASCAR Cup Series Driver Power Rankings following the 2018 Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. If you have any questions about how these rankings are calculated, have a look at the preseason article on Beyond the Flag that details the formula used to calculate them.
