Alexander Rossi took the pole position for the third race of the 2018 IndyCar season, which is the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Alexander Rossi took his second career IndyCar pole and his first pole of the 2018 season with a top lap time of 66.5528 seconds (106.454 miles per hour) in qualifying for the 44th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach around the 11-turn, 1.968-mile temporary street circuit on the streets of Long Beach, California.
Rossi’s pole makes him the third different polesitter through three races so far this season, and it gives Honda their third pole in those three races as well.
Team Penske’s Will Power and Simon Pagenaud qualified in 2nd and 3rd place in their #12 Chevrolet and #22 Chevrolet, respectively, for the 85-lap race tomorrow. All three Team Penske cars qualified in the top 6, with Josef Newgarden joining those two drivers by qualifying in 6th in his #1 Chevrolet after slapping the wall toward the end of the Firestone Fast Six, which is the final round of qualifying.
