More from Dale Earnhardt Jr

Dale Earnhardt, who was tragically killed on a last-lap crash in the 2001 Daytona 500, would have turned 67 years old this past Sunday.

Nobody ever doubted the fact that Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s decision to retire from his role as the full-time driver of the #88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup Series was the right one, especially given his concussion history and the fact that he missed the final 18 races of the 2016 season with concussion-like symptoms.

Now that he has his first child, his decision to retire undoubtedly looks like it was the right call.

Here is what Dan Patrick asked Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a recent interview on the Dan Patrick show, according to NASCAR.com.

"“You’re driving 200 mph last year and now you’re going to try to put a baby seat in a Suburban — what happened to you, Junior?”"

Here is how Earnhardt Jr. responded.

"“I’m becoming a father.”"
