Indy 500: Tony Kanaan tops Indianapolis Motor Speedway manufacturer test

Tony Kanaan topped the Indy 500 manufacturer test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Wednesday to wrap up this week’s testing at the track.

For the second time this week, full-time IndyCar driver Tony Kanaan found himself atop the speed chart in an Indy 500 test session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This time, he found himself atop the speed chart for the manufacturer test.

Kanaan topped the speed chart in this manufacturer test session in his #14 Chevrolet for A.J. Foyt Enterprises after recording a lap at 226.680 miles per hour (39.7035 seconds) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile oval in Speedway, Indiana.

The 43-year-old Brazilian topped the speed chart in Monday’s open test session at the track by recording a lap at 226.181 miles per hour (39.7912 seconds) around the track.

Of the 11 drivers who participated in this manufacturer test, seven are Chevrolet drivers while only four are Honda drivers.

Chevrolet drivers took each of the top three positions on the speed chart in this test, with Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter and Harding Racing’s Gabby Chaves finishing behind Kanaan in second and third place in their #20 Chevrolet and #88 Chevrolet, respectively.

The fastest Honda driver of this test session was Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Robert Wickens in his #6 Honda. Wickens was the fastest driver in yesterday’s Rookie Orientation Program and he was the fastest driver yesterday as a whole in terms of the combined results of the Rookie Orientation Program and the veteran refresher test.
