Kanaan topped the speed chart in his #14 Chevrolet for A.J. Foyt Enterprises by turning a lap at 226.181 miles per hour (39.7912 seconds) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana in the second of two practice sessions in the first open test.

Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud was the second fastest driver in the open test behind Kanaan in his #22 Chevrolet. Andretti Herta Autosport’s Marco Andretti was the fastest Honda driver in the open test in third place.

Castroneves ended up finishing the session as the 10th fastest driver in the session in his #3 Chevrolet. Other non-full-time drivers who drove in the session were Ed Carpenter Racing’s Ed Carpenter in his #20 Chevrolet and Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey in his #60 Honda. Carpenter and Harvey finished the session in ninth and 20th place, respectively.

The other 18 drivers who participated in the open test are full-time drivers. The only two full-time drivers who did not participate in the open test are Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ Robert Wickens and A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Matheus Leist, as they have never driven in the Indy 500 before and are scheduled to complete the Rookie Orientation Program tomorrow.
