NASCAR Xfinity Series: OneMain Financial 200 at Dover results – Justin Allgaier wins
By Mark Kristl
Justin Allgaier took him the victory in the OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway on Saturday in the 10th race of the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.
What a week for Dale Earnhardt Jr. On Tuesday, his wife Amy gave birth to his first child, daughter Isla Rose Earnhardt, and today, May 5, his JR Motorsports driver Justin Allgaier won the NASCAR Xfinity Series race, the One Main Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway.
With the victory, Allgaier locks himself into the 2018 Xfinity Series playoffs. The One Main Financial 200 also was the last Dash 4 Cash race of the season. Allgaier won today’s Dash 4 Cash, taking home $100,000, giving JR Motorsports three Dash 4 Cash victories. At the end of the race, three JR Motorsports drivers finished in the top five, and those three drivers would all be in the Xfinity Series playoffs if they started today.
The victory was not an easy one for Justin Allgaier. Although he won stage two, he spent the winding laps of the race fending off JR Motorsports teammate Elliott Sadler. The two teammates won the first two stages, with Sadler capturing stage one and Allgaier winning Stage two.
With less than 10 laps to go, Allgaier led but Sadler reeled him in. As they navigated lapped traffic, Allgaier kept the lead and they saw the white flag. On the final lap, Allgaier thought the lapped car of Joe Nemechek would stay down low.
Instead, Nemechek went high and Allgaier let off the gas. Sadler dove low, the two touched, nearly sending them spinning. Sadler brushed the wall, but Allgaier held on to win his first Xfinity Series race of the 2018 season. Here is a video of the exciting end to the eventful race.

While the two JR Motorsports drivers did not spin, the One Main Financial 200 featured several of spins as well as pit road penalties. Both JGL Racing drivers were involved in separate cautions. Kaz Grala brought out the fourth caution of the race after hard contact with the wall, ultimately ending his race.
Later in the race, according to the spotters of the involved drivers in the caution, Ryan Sieg dumped Ty Majeski, and Dylan Lupton was unable to avoid the spinning Majeski.
After going three-wide with Johnny Sauter, Austin Cindric and John Hunter Nemechek raced hard, which led to Nemechek sliding up in front of Cindric. Unfortunately, Nemechek did not clear Cindric, and Cindric lightly clipped Nemechek, causing him to scrape the wall.

Similar to that incident, Ryan Reed and Alex Labbe gave each other a bit of contact. Reed lightly touched the rear end of Labbe’s car going into a corner, spinning Labbe around for the seventh caution flag period of the race. While Labbe didn’t receive any damage from the spin, his right front tire blew on his drive down pit road, causing significant damage to his car.
Fresh off his victory in the Truck Series race yesterday, Johnny Sauter worked hard for his eventual sixth place finish. He served as the replacement driver for the suspended Spencer Gallagher. Sauter also received a pit road penalty for an uncontrolled tire.
However, he was not the only driver to receive a pit road penalty in the race. All three Joe Gibbs Racing drivers received pit road penalties, and Brandon Brown nearly left his pit box without a left rear tire. Other drivers also endured pit road problems.
Yet despite many drivers’ problems, Justin Allgaier pulled through for the win, and he stated in his post-race interview that this victory is further proof that Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s organization is the one to beat in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.
