IndyCar: 2018 DXC Technology 600 qualifying results – Josef Newgarden takes pole

Josef Newgarden took the pole position for the ninth race of the 2018 IndyCar season, the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden became the second driver to take his second pole position of the 2018 IndyCar season by taking the pole position for the ninth race of the 17-race season, the DXC Technology 600 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Newgarden took the pole position for the DXC Technology 600 on the high banks of the four-turn, 1.44-mile Texas Motor Speedway oval in Fort Worth, Texas by recording a two-lap average speed of 220.613 miles per hour (46.9964 seconds total) in the qualifying session.
Newgarden led a top three Chevrolet sweep, particularly a top three Team Penske sweep, of the speed chart in the qualifying session in his #1 Chevrolet. Simon Pagenaud qualified in second place in his #22 Chevrolet and Will Power qualifying in third in his #12 Chevrolet.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens, who topped the speed chart in the first and only pre-qualifying practice session for the race, qualified in fourth place in his #6 Honda. Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais rounded out the top five in his #18 Honda.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan was the highest qualifying non-Team Penske driver of a Chevrolet car. He qualified in sixth place in his #14 Chevrolet. Behind him were five straight Honda drivers, including three of the four Andretti Autosport drivers, from seventh through 11th.
There is just one practice session remaining before the race itself takes place tomorrow night at 8:45 p.m. ET. That final practice is set to take place this evening starting at 7:15 p.m. ET.
