IndyCar: Schmidt Peterson Motorsports reveal Robert Wickens’s injuries
By Asher Fair
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports have revealed the injuries suffered by Robert Wickens in the IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway last month.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports rookie Robert Wickens was involved in a devastating crash in the IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, August 19, the ABC Supply 500, when his car flew above the SAFER barrier and into the catch fence.
The 29-year-old driver of the #6 Honda attempted to pass Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay on the first green flag lap and the seventh overall lap of the 200-lap race heading into turn two of the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Pocono Raceway triangle in Long Pond, Pennsylvania.
In doing so, the Canadian driver made contact with Hunter-Reay’s #28 Honda. As Hunter-Reay’s car spun up the track, it carried Wickens’s #6 Honda with it, which catapulted the #6 Honda above the SAFER barrier, into the catch fence and into a violent spin, which continued until several seconds after it landed on the track.
