Spencer Pigot has re-signed with Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2019 IndyCar season, which is set to be his second season as a full-time driver.

Spencer Pigot is set to return to Ed Carpenter Racing as the driver of the #21 Chevrolet in the 2019 IndyCar season. He is currently in his third season as an IndyCar driver, his third season driving for Ed Carpenter Racing and his first season as a full-time driver.

Pigot made his IndyCar debut in the 2016 season driving for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. After driving in three races, including his first career Indianapolis 500, for the team behind the wheel of the #16 Honda, he was signed as the driver of the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet for the road and street course races.

The 24-year-old Orlando, Florida native continued to drive the #20 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet in the road and street course races last season. He drove the #11 Juncos Racing Chevrolet in the Indy 500.

Pigot replaced J.R. Hildebrand as Ed Carpenter Racing’s lone full-time driver ahead of this season. Hildebrand spent one season driving the #21 Chevrolet after Josef Newgarden, the previous driver of the #21 Chevrolet, signed with Team Penske ahead of the 2017 season.

Here is what Pigot had to say about re-signing with Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2019 season, according to IndyCar.

"“I’m extremely happy to be returning to Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2019 season. I have to thank Ed Carpenter, Stuart Reed and Tony George for giving me the opportunity to race for their team once again. I’m honored to represent our great partners of Fuzzy’s Vodka, Preferred Freezer Services, Direct Supply, Autogeek and everyone else that makes this possible.“It’s been great to compete in my first full season of Indy car racing this year and I look forward to building on that next year. We have a lot to look back on and learn from. We will be working hard over the offseason and will be able to hit the ground running when we get to next season’s opener in St. Pete.”"

Here is what Ed Carpenter Racing team owner Ed Carpenter had to say about the matter, according to IndyCar.

"“I am really happy to have Spencer back in the No. 21 for the 2019 season. We have always believed that Spencer has the potential to compete for race wins and championships and he has really showed that in the back half of this season. Hopefully, we can break through this weekend at the season finale and get ECR back in the win column.”"

In 38 career IndyCar starts, Pigot has recorded 10 top 10 finishes, of which five have come in the first 16 races of this season. In fact, the five top 10 finishes that he has recorded this season have all been recorded in the last 10 races.

Pigot’s career-high finish is a second place finish, which he recorded in this year’s Iowa Corn Indy 300 at Iowa Speedway. He has recorded one other top five finish in his IndyCar career. This other top five finish is his fourth place finish in the Grand Prix of Portland at Portland International Raceway earlier this month.

Pigot’s top three career finishes have all come over the course of the last six races. In addition to his second place finish in the race at Iowa Speedway and his fourth place finish in the race at Portland International Raceway, he also finished in sixth place in the Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at Gateway Motorsports Park.

Coming into this season, Pigot’s career-high finish was his seventh place finish in the 2016 Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
