Tyler Reddick closed out the 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season by winning the Ford EcoBoost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

JR Motorsports’ Tyler Reddick opened up the 33-race 2018 NASCAR Xfinity Series season by winning the race at Daytona International Speedway. But entering the season finale, the Ford EcoBoost 300, at Homestead-Miami Speedway, he had not won a race since he won this race back in mid-February.

The 22-year-old Corning, California native changed this by winning the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 1.5-mile (2.414-kilometer) Homestead-Miami Speedway oval in Homestead, Florida after starting it in fourth place in his #9 Chevrolet.

Reddick won this race by 6.902 seconds over Stewart-Haas Racing’s Cole Custer, who finished in second place in his #00 Ford. Both drivers entered the race in championship contention as two of the four Championship 4 drivers, but it was the rookie who clinched this year’s title.

The race and thus the championship appeared to be Custer’s to lose, but Reddick made his final pit stop well before Custer did and gained a ton of track position as a result of the fact that he got onto new tires quicker. Custer made up ground on his new tires following his pit stop, but Reddick made the high line work, allowing him to pull away and take the victory and the championship.

The other two Championship 4 drivers, Richard Childress Racing’s Daniel Hemric and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, finished the race in fourth and 11th place in their #21 Chevrolet and #20 Toyota, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s John Hunter Nemechek and Team Penske’s Austin Cindric were the other two drivers who finished in the top five. They finished in third and fifth place in their #42 Chevrolet and #22 Ford, respectively.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s Ryan Preece was the highest finishing Toyota driver of the race. He finished in sixth place in his #18 Toyota. JR Motorsports’ Justin Allgaier, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Brandon Jones, JR Motorsports’ Michael Annett and Richard Childress Racing’s Matt Tifft rounded out the top 10 by finishing in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th in their #7 Chevrolet, #19 Toyota, #5 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

The race featured a total of five lead changes among four drivers. Aside of Reddick, who led 44 laps, three drivers led at least one lap of the race. Those drivers were Custer, who led more laps than anybody else in the field with 95 laps led, Nemechek and Bell. Custer won both stages one and two.

Just like yesterday night’s Truck Series season finale, this race featured no caution flag periods aside of the two caution flag periods that took place as a result of the endings of stages one and two. Of the 40 drivers who started the race, 32 finished it and seven finished it on the lead lap.
