IndyCar: Dale Coyne Racing and Vasser Sullivan to continue partnership
By Asher Fair
Dale Coyne Racing and Vasser Sullivan are set to continue their partnership for the 2019 IndyCar season and beyond via a new multiyear agreement.
After forming a partnership for the 2018 IndyCar season to field the #18 Honda, which was driven full-time by four-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais, Dale Coyne Racing and Vasser Sullivan have confirmed that they are set to continue their partnership for the 2019 season and beyond via a new multiyear agreement.
As a result, Dale Coyne Racing and Vasser Sullivan are set to continue to compete together as co-entrants of the #18 Honda, which Bourdais is set to drive for the third consecutive season this year, as he also drove it in the 2017 season (when he wasn’t recovering from injuries he suffered in a qualifying crash for the Indianapolis 500) when it was simply the #18 Dale Coyne Racing Honda.
Here is what Vasser-Sullivan team co-owner James Sullivan had to say about this continued partnership with Dale Coyne Racing, according to IndyCar.
"“After nearly a year of planning in 2017, 2018 was really a trial to get to this point of a multiyear go-forward plan. We had flashes of brilliance, and most importantly we proved the new partnership worked. This is what we all wanted, and now we have a great platform to build on as we fight for the INDYCAR championship in the coming years.”"
Here is what Vasser-Sullivan team co-owner Jimmy Vasser had to say about the matter, according to IndyCar.
"“We are excited to continue our relationship with Dale and to have Sebastien driving for us. Seb is without question one of the greatest drivers ever in an Indy car. All you have to do is look at some of his performances from last year to know what a talent he is. Sulli and I are looking forward to our future as Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan and improving on the success we started last year.”"

"“I am really pleased that Jimmy, Sulli and I have reached an agreement to grow our partnership, and to have Sebastien returning. This next phase of our partnership will see the team with some more resources, equipment and funding. I’m quite looking forward to building upon what we started last year and taking it to the next level.”"
Dale Coyne Racing, meanwhile, are set to field the #19 Honda on their own. Rookie Santino Ferrucci, who made the first four starts of his IndyCar career in the 2018 season, is set to drive this car full-time in the 2019 season.
How will the second season of this partnership between Dale Coyne Racing and Vasser Sullivan work out? The 2019 IndyCar season is scheduled to get underway in under six and a half weeks on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. This race is scheduled to take place on Sunday, March 10. More details about the 2019 schedule can be found here.
