IndyCar: Alexander Rossi tops fourth Circuit of the Americas test session

Alexander Rossi topped the speed chart in the fourth and final IndyCar Spring Training test session at Circuit of the Americas of the preseason.

It took until the fourth and final test session of IndyCar Spring Training at Circuit of the Americas, but somebody other than Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta finally ended up on top of the speed chart in one of these test sessions.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi topped the speed chart in this test session. He did so by recording a top lap time of 106.8535 seconds (115.459 miles per hour) around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas in his #27 Honda.

Herta, meanwhile, finished right behind Rossi in second place by recording a top lap time of 107.0001 seconds (115.301 miles per hour) in his #88 Honda. The two drivers flipped positions from today’s early session when Herta finished in first and Rossi finished in second.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal and Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon completed a top six sweep by Honda drivers in this test session. They finished this session in third, fourth, fifth and sixth place in their #28 Honda, #10 Honda, #15 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively.

Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud, Josef Newgarden and Will Power were the highest finishing Chevrolet drivers of this test session. They finished in seventh, 10th and 11th place in their #22 Chevrolet, #2 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

Schmidt Peterson Motorsports’ James Hinchcliffe and Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci were the other two drivers who finished this test session in the top 10. They finished it in eighth and ninth place in their #5 Honda and #19 Honda, respectively.

The highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of the test session was Carlin’s RC Enerson, who finished in 14th place in his #23 Chevrolet.

This year’s IndyCar race at Circuit of the Americas is set to be the inaugural race at the venue.
