IndyCar: Colton Herta tops third Circuit of the Americas test session

Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the third of four IndyCar Spring Training test sessions at Circuit of the Americas this preseason.

After topping the speed charts in both the first and second IndyCar Spring Training test sessions at Circuit of the Americas yesterday, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta topped the speed chart in the third test session at the track as well.

The 18-year-old Valencia, California native, who is the youngest full-time driver in the series, topped the speed chart in this test session by recording a top lap time of 106.6401 seconds (115.690 miles per hour) around the 20-turn, 3.427-mile (5.515-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas in his #88 Honda.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi finished behind Herta in second place by recording a top lap time of 107.0132 seconds (115.287 miles per hour) in his #27 Honda.

Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden were the highest finishing Chevrolet drivers of this test session. They finished in third and fifth place in their #22 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon, meanwhile, was the other driver who finished the test session in the top five. He finished in fourth place in his #9 Honda.

Pagenaud and Newgarden were the only two Chevrolet drivers who finished the test session in the top nine.

The other four drivers who finished the test session in the top nine were Meyer Shank Racing’s Jack Harvey, Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay, Chip Ganassi Racing rookie Felix Rosenqvist and Dale Coyne Racing’s Sebastien Bourdais. They finished in sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth place in their #60 Honda, #28 Honda, #10 Honda and #18 Honda, respectively.

The only other Chevrolet driver who finished the session in the top 10 was Carlin’s RC Enerson, who finished in 10th place in his #23 Chevrolet. Team Penske teammates Helio Castroneves and Will Power finished right behind him in 11th and 12th in their #3 Chevrolet and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.
