Richard Petty discussed the possibility of Kyle Busch breaking his all-time NASCAR wins record of 200 this year and what it would mean.

The 200 career NASCAR Cup Series victories of seven-time Cup Series champion Richard Petty make him not only the winningest driver in Cup Series history (by far), but they make him the winningest driver in NASCAR history as well. The sport’s first seven-time champion never even competed in the Xfinity Series nor the Truck Series.

However, Petty’s all-time NASCAR wins record is in serious jeopardy in the 2019 season. In fact, the odds that it stands as the NASCAR wins record by the time the 2020 season rolls around really aren’t great no matter how you slice it.

This is the case because of the fact that Kyle Busch’s eight Cup Series victories, one Xfinity Series victory and two Truck Series victories in the 2018 season propelled him to 51 career Cup Series victories, 92 career Xfinity Series victories and 51 career Truck Series victories.

With 194 career NASCAR victories, the 33-year-old Las Vegas, Nevada native trails Petty by just six victories on the all-time NASCAR wins list heading into the 2019 season.

Considering the fact that Busch has not earned fewer than seven combined victories in the Cup Series, the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series in a single season since he earned only one Cup Series victory in the 2012 season, he appears to be poised to become the winningest driver in NASCAR history over the course of the next few months.

Fans have debated the significance of Busch’s NASCAR win total when compared to Petty’s for several years even before Petty’s all-time NASCAR wins record became vulnerable to that of the 2015 Cup Series champion. But what does Petty himself think about the possibility of Busch becoming NASCAR’s winningest driver of all-time this year?

In simple terms, he really could not care less.

Here is what Petty had to say about the prospect of Busch breaking his all-time NASCAR wins record in the 2019 season, according to Autoweek.

"“His 200 and my 200 — there’s no comparison. I did my thing and he’s doing his, and they’re not the same.”"

While some fans may not expect this to be the case, even Busch himself feels the same way.
