Following the 2019 IndyCar season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, how do the sport’s 10 full-time teams rank against one another?

For the first time since Juan Pablo Montoya won the 2016 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, a Team Penske driver won an IndyCar season opener. Josef Newgarden took the checkered flag in this year’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg to open up the 2019 season.

Newgarden’s victory in the 110-lap race around the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida came after a season opener in 2018 that did not result in any Team Penske drivers finishing in the top six.

In this year’s season opener, it wasn’t just Newgarden who had success for Team Penske, as the team’s other two drivers, Will Power and Simon Pagenaud, finished in third and seventh place, respectively.

Team Penske were the third different team to win a race in the 2017 season and the second different team to win a race in the 2018 season before becoming the first team to win a race in the 2019 season.

Newgarden has been responsible for the team’s first victory in each of his three seasons driving for the team, as he won the season’s third race at Barber Motorsports Park in the 2017 season and the season’s second race at ISM Raceway in the 2018 season before winning this year’s season opener.

How did Team Penske’s season-opening victory affect the IndyCar Team Power Rankings? Here are the formulated IndyCar Team Power Rankings and the non-formulated IndyCar Team Power Ranking with one of the 17 races on the 2019 schedule in the books.
