Formula 1 Team Power Rankings after 2019 Australian Grand Prix
By Asher Fair
The 2019 Formula 1 season opener is in the books. With the 21-race season still in its opening stages, how do the sport’s 10 teams rank against one another?
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport have finished each of the five Formula 1 seasons that have been completed since the start of the V6 turbo hybrid era in the 2014 season with the highest win total among the sport’s teams.
However, none of their drivers had won a season opener since Nico Rosberg won the 2016 Australian Grand Prix. Valtteri Bottas changed that by winning this year’s Australian Grand Prix.
Bottas’s victory in the 58-lap race around the 16-turn, 3.296-mile (5.304-kilometer) Melbourne Grand Prix Circuit road course in Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia also marks the first time since Rosberg won the 2016 Australian Grand Prix that a driver other than Lewis Hamilton has been responsible for earning the first victory of the season for the Brackley-based team.
Hamilton won the 2017 season’s second race, the Chinese Grand Prix, after Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel won the season opener, the Australian Grand Prix.

Hamilton won the 2018 season’s fourth race, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after Vettel won the season’s first two races, the Australian Grand Prix and the Bahrain Grand Prix, and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Daniel Ricciardo won the season’s third race, the Chinese Grand Prix.
Since Bottas arrived at the Silver Arrows before the 2017 season, Hamilton has earned a total of 21 victories. Bottas’s 2019 season-opening victory was only his fourth driving for the team, and it was his first since he won the 2017 season finale, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
