IndyCar: Will Power takes pole for 2019 IndyCar Classic

Will Power took the pole position for the second race of the 2019 IndyCar season, the IndyCar Classic, at Circuit of the Americas.

After taking the pole position for the 2019 IndyCar season opener, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, Team Penske’s Will Power took his second pole position of the 17-race 2019 season by taking the pole position for the season’s second race, the IndyCar Classic, at Circuit of the Americas.

Power took the pole position for this 60-lap race around the 20-turn, 3.41-mile (5.488-kilometer) Circuit of the Americas road course in Austin, Texas by recording a top lap time of 106.0177 seconds (115.792 miles per hour) in his #12 Chevrolet in the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session.

This pole position is the 56th pole position of Power’s IndyCar career, which moves him to just 11 pole positions away from Mario Andretti’s all-time record of 67 pole positions.

Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi is set to start alongside Power on the front row on the starting grid after qualifying in second place in his #27 Honda. Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay and Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta are set to share the second row on the starting grid after qualifying in third and fourth in their #28 Honda and #88 Honda, respectively.

Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Felix Rosenqvist, a rookie, and Scott Dixon, the slowest two of the six drivers who advanced to the Firestone Fast Six qualifying session, are set to share the third row on the starting grid after qualifying in fifth and sixth place in their #10 Honda and #9 Honda, respectively, giving Honda drivers five of the top six positions on the starting grid.

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden, Carlin rookie Patricio O’Ward, Andretti Autosport’s Zach Veach and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal are set to round out the top 10 on the starting grid after qualifying in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #2 Chevrolet, #31 Chevrolet, #26 Honda and #15 Honda, respectively.

Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci and A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Matheus Leist, the slowest two of the 12 drivers who advanced to the second round of qualifying, are set to share the sixth row on the starting grid after qualifying in 11th and 12th place in their #19 Honda and #4 Chevrolet, respectively.
