Formula E: Will 7th different driver from 7th different team win 7th race?
By Asher Fair
Will a seventh different driver representing a seventh different team win the seventh race of the 2018-2019 Formula E season, the Rome ePrix?
Through the first six races of the 2018-2019 Formula E season, six different drivers representing six different teams have been victorious.
BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Antonio Felix da Costa, Mahindra Racing’s Jerome d’Ambrosio and Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird won the first, second and third races of the season, the Ad Diriyah ePrix, the Marrakesh ePrix and the Santiago ePrix, respectively.
Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi, Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara and DS Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne won the fourth, fifth and sixth races of the season, the Mexico City ePrix, the Hong Kong ePrix and the Sanya ePrix, respectively.
This means that any one of 10 drivers, who make up nearly half of the 22-driver field, could continue the trend of a different driver from a different team being victorious in the season’s seventh race, the Rome ePrix, at Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR.

Five of the sport’s 11 teams have not yet won a race this season. These five teams are the Nissan e.dams, Panasonic Jaguar Racing, HWA Racelab, NIO and Geox Dragon Racing.
Oliver Rowland and Sebastien Buemi drive for Nissan e.dams while Mitch Evans and Alex Lynn drive for Panasonic Jaguar Racing, Gary Paffett and Stoffel Vandoorne drive for HWA Racelab, Oliver Turvey and Tom Dillmann drive for NIO and Jose Maria Lopez and Felipe Nasr drive for Geox Dragon Racing.
Several of these 10 drivers have shown that they can compete at a high level and that they have what it takes to win a race this season, possibly even the race at the 21-turn, 1.77-mile (2.849-kilometer) Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR temporary street circuit in Rome, Italy to become the seventh different winner representing the seventh different team through the season’s first seven races.
The most notable three of these drivers are Rowland, Buemi and Evans. Rowland took his first career pole position for the Sanya ePrix, and he translated that to a career-high second place finish in the race. He scored 21 of the 27 points that he has scored this season in that race alone, so he is clearly making strides in his rookie season.
Buemi, meanwhile, had a great chance to win the Santiago ePrix from the pole position before crashing out. The driver who won six of the eight races in which he competed during the 2016-2017 season and likely would have won that season’s championship had he not been disqualified from two of the other four races and had he actually competed in the other two races is still searching for his first victory in nearly two years, and he still clearly has the speed to get the job done.
Finally, Evans has been the epitome of consistency throughout the season thus far, as he has finished no higher than fourth place but no lower than ninth in any of the season’s first six races.
Evans’s average finish of 7.00 is the second best average finish among the average finishes of all 22 of the sport’s full-time drivers so far this season. Only Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt has recorded a better average finish that Evans has, as his average finish through the season’s first six races is 6.67.
Will the seventh race of the 2018-2019 Formula E season, the Rome ePrix, feature the seventh different winner representing a seventh different team this season? This race is scheduled to take place this Saturday, April 13 at Circuito Cittadino dell’EUR, and it is set to be broadcast live on the Fox Sports app beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET.
