IndyCar: Juncos Racing to field one car in 2019 Indianapolis 500
By Asher Fair
Part-time IndyCar team Juncos Racing are set to field one car in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 next month. They have not yet confirmed their driver.
After making their IndyCar debut by fielding two cars in the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 in 2017, Juncos Racing increased their commitment in the series for the 2018 season and fielded a car in 12 of the season’s 17 races, including the Indy 500.
While there were rumors that they may field two cars for this year’s running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing, Juncos Racing have confirmed that they are set to field one car in IndyCar‘s most prestigious race once again.
They have fielded one car, the #32 Chevrolet, in one of the season’s first four races, the season’s second race at Circuit of the Americas. Kyle Kaiser drove for the team in this race and finished in 18th place after starting in 21st.
Here is what Juncos Racing team owner Ricardo Juncos had to say about their plans for this year’s Indy 500, according to RACER.
"“We’re going to be announcing this pretty soon, maybe in the next few weeks, but it’s going to be only one car. Unfortunately, we [are] little bit late to put all of it together. The reason why was the late [creation of the] IMSA program put us in a situation where we really challenged the whole team to get ready for Daytona.“As you could also see at Long Beach, the [IMSA] team was much better now [that we’ve] settled down and now we are back to more of [a] normal path in the team, so because of that as well, we were not able to put the two cars in there [for Indy].”"

Kaiser, who drove the #32 Chevrolet in four races last season, including the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana, is rumored to be the driver of the #32 Chevrolet for this year’s Indy 500 once again, although Juncos Racing have not yet confirmed their driver for the race.
Kaiser finished in 29th place in last year’s Indy 500 after starting in 17th. He was forced to retire on lap 111 with a mechanical issue. Sebastian Saavedra and Spencer Pigot drove the #17 Chevrolet and the #11 Chevrolet, respectively, for the team in their first Indy 500 two years ago. After starting in 31st and 29th, they finished in 15th and 18th, respectively.
The 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 26. NBC is set to air it live from Indianapolis Motor Speedway beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET.
