Through the first eight races of the 13-race 2018-2019 Formula E season, the driver and team championship battles are still extremely tight.

Following the Paris ePrix, which was the eighth race on the 2018-2019 Formula E schedule, only five more races are scheduled to be contested this season.

But despite the fact that the season is more than 60% complete, there is still no clear picture in terms of the driver or team championship battles. In fact, these battles are both still extremely tight.

This makes sense due to the fact that eight different drivers representing seven of the sport’s 11 teams have been victorious through the first eight race of the season. In fact, through the first seven races of the season, seven different drivers representing these seven teams had been victorious, which is a pretty remarkable feat.

More from Formula E

Envision Virgin Racing’s Robin Frijns became the eighth different driver to win a race this season by winning the rain-soaked 32-lap Paris ePrix around the 14-turn, 1.20-mile (1.931-kilometer) Circuit des Invalides temporary street circuit in Paris, France, and he made Envision Virgin Racing the first team to win two races so far this season by doing so.

Sam Bird, Frijns’s teammate, delivered Envision Virgin Racing their first victory of the season by winning the season’s third race, the Santiago ePrix, back in January.

It appeared as though Bird had earned his second victory of the season and delivered the team their second victory of the season by winning the season’s fifth race, the Hong Kong ePrix, but his victory was stripped from him as a result of a post-race penalty. As a result, Venturi’s Edoardo Mortara was promoted to first place from second.

With all things considered, the championship battles are still very wide open as Formula E prepares to come down the home stretch and wrap up its fifth season, as there are still no drivers or teams that have been able to separate themselves from the rest of the pack.

With race victories being worth 25 points, second place finishes being worth 18 points, pole positions being worth three points and fastest laps being worth one point, there are a maximum of 29 points (25+3+1) on the table for each driver and a maximum of 47 points (25+18+3+1) on the table for each team in each race.

As a result, there are currently 10 drivers within striking distance of the top of the driver standings and four teams within striking distance of the top of the team standings.

Here are the current top 10 in the driver standings. Note that any one of these 10 drivers may be leading the standings after the season’s next race, the Monaco ePrix.
