Formula E: Jean-Eric Vergne wins 2019 Monaco ePrix

Jean-Eric Vergne earned his second victory of the 2018-2019 Formula E season by winning the season’s ninth race, the Monaco ePrix.

DS Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne became the first driver to win two races in the 2018-2019 Formula E season, as after winning the season’s sixth race, the Sanya ePrix, at Haitang Bay Circuit, he has now won the season’s ninth race, the Monaco ePrix, at Circuit de Monaco.

The reigning Formula E champion, who started the 51-lap race around the 12-turn, 1.096-mile (1.765-kilometer) Circuit de Monaco temporary street circuit in Monte Carlo, Monaco from the pole position, won it by 0.201 seconds in his #25 Spark-DS Automobiles over Nissan e.dams’ Oliver Rowland, who finished in second in his #22 Spark-Nissan to tie his career-high finish.

Venturi’s Felipe Massa, Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein and Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi rounded out the top five by finishing in third, fourth and fifth place in their, #19 Spark-Venturi, #94 Spark-Mahindra and #23 Spark-Nissan, respectively.

Massa’s third place finish is his new career-high finish. As a result, the top three drivers in this race all tied or recorded their new career-high finishes.

BMW i Andretti Motorsport’s Antonio Felix da Costa, Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt, DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer and Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Alex Lynn rounded out the top 10 by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their, #28 Spark-BMW, #20 Spark-Jaguar, #66 Spark-Audi, #36 Spark-DS Automobiles and #3 Spark-Jaguar, respectively.

The race did not feature any lead changes and was the first race so far this season that did not feature any, as Vergne led all 51 of the race’s laps, although the battle at the front between him and Rowland was intense throughout the closing laps of the race. Of the 22 drivers who started the race, 17 finished it, and of those 17 drivers, 16 finished on the lead lap.
