IndyCar: Juncos Racing lose two primary sponsors for 2019 Indianapolis 500
By Asher Fair
IndyCar team Juncos Racing have lost two of their primary sponsors for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 just one day before practice for the race is scheduled to commence.
Last Sunday, Juncos Racing confirmed that Kyle Kaiser would be their driver for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the sixth of 17 races on the 2019 IndyCar schedule.
But the #32 Chevrolet that the 23-year-old Santa Clara, California native is set to drive in this year’s running of the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” will be without two of the primary sponsors that it was supposed to have, calling into question whether or not Juncos Racing will actually field this car.
Here is what Juncos Racing team owner Ricardo Juncos had to say about the matter, according to RACER.
"“Unfortunately, we lost the two main sponsors that we thought was going to happen. The second one was just last week.”"
He added, however, that the team still plan to field the #32 Chevrolet for Kaiser in this race.
"“But we are here and you know the car is ready, Kyle’s ready, the team is ready. It’s just going to be a little white car, but we’re not going to lose the motivation, we’re going to keep pushing. And you never know, right? There’s been stories that I found that maybe the last two weeks, even the last week, you might find something before the race. So, we’re going to focus, obviously, now it’s time for the whole team to focus on practice, qualifying to make sure we perform as good as we did last year. And build the momentum from there, you know?”"

This year’s running of the Indy 500 is set to be Juncos Racing’s third attempt in the race, as they fielded two cars in the 101st running of the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana two years ago in what was their first ever IndyCar race, and they fielded one car in the 102nd running of the race last year.
Kaiser made his Indy 500 debut in last year’s running of the race and qualified in 17th place before a mechanical issue on lap 111 relegated him to a 29th place finish. So far this season, he is the only driver who has driven for Juncos Racing in any race, as he drove the #32 Chevrolet in the season’s second race at Circuit of the Americas and finished in 18th after starting in 21st.
Practice for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. ET tomorrow morning, and practice sessions are scheduled to be held throughout the rest of the week as well. Will Juncos Racing end up fielding a car for Kyle Kaiser in this year’s running of the crown jewel on the IndyCar schedule?
