By Asher Fair
Spencer Pigot topped the speed chart in the Saturday qualifying session for the 2019 Indy 500, the crown jewel race on the IndyCar schedule.
Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot topped the speed chart in the Saturday qualifying session for the 2019 IndyCar season’s sixth race, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway with his lone qualifying attempt of the day, which he made early in the day. In fact, he was the second driver who made a qualifying attempt.
Pigot recorded a four-lap average speed of 230.083 miles per hour around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana in his #21 Chevrolet, which was just 0.002 miles per hour quicker than the four-lap average speed of Team Penske’s Will Power.
Power finished the qualifying session in second place after recording a four-lap average speed of 230.081 miles per hour in his #12 Chevrolet. Team Penske teammates Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden finished in third and fourth in their #22 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively.
