IndyCar: Tony Kanaan tops eighth 2019 Indianapolis 500 practice session

Tony Kanaan topped the eighth and final practice session for the crown jewel race on the IndyCar schedule, the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500.
A.J. Foyt Enterprises’ Tony Kanaan topped the speed chart in the eighth and final practice session for the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500, the crown jewel on the IndyCar schedule, at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Kanaan topped the speed chart in this practice session, the Carb Day practice session, by recording a top lap time of 39.9083 seconds (225.517 miles per hour) around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval in Speedway, Indiana.
Honda drivers took the next six positions on the speed chart in this practice session after Kanaan. Dale Coyne Racing rookie Santino Ferrucci was the highest finishing Honda driver in second place in his #19 Honda.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing teammates Takuma Sato and Jordan King, a rookie, finished in third and fourth place in their #30 Honda and #42 Honda, respectively. Dale Coyne Racing with Byrd-Hollinger-Belardi’s James Davison rounded out the top five by finishing in fifth in his #33 Honda.
Dale Coyne Racing with Vasser-Sullivan’s Sebastien Bourdais and Andretti Autosport’s Alexander Rossi rounded out the top seven by finishing in sixth and seventh place in their #18 Honda and #27 Honda, respectively.
Carlin’s Charlie Kimball, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta and Team Penske’s Will Power rounded out the top 10 by finishing in eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #23 Chevrolet, #88 Honda and #12 Chevrolet, respectively.

The 33 drivers who are set to compete in the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 will not get any more practice time before the race itself is scheduled to get underway this Memorial Day Sunday, May 26. This race, which is the sixth of 17 races on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, is set to be broadcast live on NBC from Indianapolis Motor Speedway beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET, and it is scheduled to begin at slightly after 12:30 p.m. ET later that afternoon.
