IndyCar: Scott Dixon tops first 2019 Belle Isle practice session

Scott Dixon topped the first practice session for the lone doubleheader on the 2019 IndyCar schedule, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix.
Chip Ganassi Racing’s Scott Dixon topped the speed chart in the first of two practice sessions leading up to this weekend’s two races of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix, the lone doubleheader on the 17-race 2019 IndyCar schedule, at the Raceway on Belle Isle.
Dixon topped the speed chart in this practice session by recording a top lap time of 76.7418 seconds (110.2398 miles per hour) around the 14-turn, 2.35-mile (3.782-kilometer) Raceway on Belle Isle temporary street circuit on the streets of Belle Isle in Detroit, Michigan in his #9 Honda.
The highest finishing Chevrolet drivers of this practice session were Team Penske teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden. They finished in second and fourth place in their #12 Chevrolet and #2 Chevrolet, respectively, and they were the only two Chevrolet drivers who finished in the top eight.

Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay split these two Team Penske teammates by finishing in third place in his #28 Honda.
Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Graham Rahal, Harding Steinbrenner Racing rookie Colton Herta and Andretti Autosport teammates Zach Veach and Alexander Rossi rounded out the rest of the top eight on the speed chart in this practice session by finishing in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth place in their #15 Honda, #88 Honda, #26 Honda and #27 Honda, respectively, giving Honda drivers six of the top eight positions.
Ed Carpenter Racing’s Spencer Pigot was the highest finishing non-Team Penske Chevrolet driver of this practice session. He finished in ninth place in his #21 Chevrolet. Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing’s Takuma Sato rounded out the top 10 by finishing in 10th in his #30 Honda.
The second and final practice session for these two races of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix is scheduled to begin this afternoon at 2:50 p.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold.
Qualifying for the first race is scheduled to begin tomorrow morning at 10:45 a.m. ET, and it is also set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Gold. Additionally, it is set to be replayed on NBC Sports Network beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m. ET tomorrow afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
Qualifying for the second race is scheduled to begin on the morning of Sunday, June 2 at 10:45 a.m. ET, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET. The race itself is scheduled to begin at 3:50 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, and it is set to be broadcast live on NBC beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET.
