On a weekend with the NASCAR Cup Series and several other major racing series off, the postponement of the Truck Series race set up a Father’s Day doubleheader.

This weekend, Father’s Day weekend, is one of the few weekends throughout the NASCAR season during which there is no Cup Series action. In fact, several other major racing series, including Formula 1, IndyCar and Formula E, are also off this weekend.

But the Truck Series and Xfinity Series both have races scheduled for this weekend, and both races are set to take place at Iowa Speedway.

The Truck Series race at the track, the M&M’s 200, was scheduled to take place on Saturday evening beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET, but it was postponed until this afternoon as a result of rain. The Xfinity Series race at the track, the CircuitCity.com 250, was always and is still scheduled to take place this evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.

With the 200-lap Truck Series race around the four-turn, 0.875-mile (1.408-kilometer) Iowa Speedway oval in Newton, Iowa now scheduled to take place this afternoon and the 250-lap Xfinity Series race set to follow just a few hours later, the postponement of the former effectively set up a Father’s Day doubleheader that was not originally scheduled.

This is already a weekend during which the spotlight, aside of the spotlight that is on the 24 Hours of Le Mans, is on the Truck Series and the Xfinity Series with the other major racing series, including the Cup Series, having off. So now having a Truck Series/Xfinity Series doubleheader at one of the most competitive tracks on the calendar for both the Truck Series and the Xfinity Series gives these two series even more of a chance to take advantage of that spotlight and shine.

Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Chandler Smith and ThorSport Racing’s Grant Enfinger are set to start the M&M’s 200 on the front row in first and second place based on the owner point totals of their #51 Toyota and #98 Ford, respectively, after qualifying was rained out. Qualifying for the CircuitCity250.com is scheduled to take place this afternoon beginning at 2:05 p.m. ET, possibly later depending on how long the Truck Series race lasts.
