Sebastien Buemi earned his first Formula E victory in more than two years in the 2018-2019 season’s penultimate race, New York City ePrix Race 1, at Brooklyn Street Circuit.

Nissan e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi extended his all-time Formula E record with the 13th victory of his career by winning the 12th race on the 13-race 2018-2019 schedule, New York City ePrix Race 1, at Brooklyn Street Circuit, but this victory was his first victory in more than two years.

Buemi started this 36-lap race around the 14-turn, 1.475-mile (2.374-kilometer) Brooklyn Street Circuit temporary street circuit in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New York from the pole position in his #23 Spark-Nissan and never relinquished the lead, but the race was far more wild than what you’d expect from a race with zero lead changes.

DS Techeetah’s Jean-Eric Vergne entered the race more than one race’s worth of points ahead of Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Lucas di Grassi in second place in the driver standings, but after a first-lap incident for Vergne, it appeared as though the championship fight would extend to tomorrow’s season finale at the track.

Vergne looked to change that by rallying through the field, and he utilized a safety car period to do so. However, he was involved in a wreck on the final lap and forced to relinquish the three points that he would have scored (two for finishing in ninth place and one for recording the race’s fastest lap), as he ended up finishing in 15th.

Meanwhile, Buemi stayed in the championship fight, as did di Grassi with his fifth place in his #11 Spark-Audi. Panasonic Jaguar Racing’s Mitch Evans finished this race in second in his #20 Spark-Jaguar, 0.932 seconds behind Buemi, and he stayed in this fight as well.

BMW i Andretti Motorsport teammate Antonio Felix da Costa and Alexander Sims finished in third and fourth place in their #28 Spark-BMW and #27 Spark-BMW, respectively.

Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler’s Daniel Abt, Mahindra Racing’s Pascal Wehrlein, Envision Virgin Racing’s Sam Bird, Mahindra Racing’s Jerome d’Ambrosio and NIO’s Oliver Turvey rounded out the top 10 by finishing in sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place in their #66 Spark-Audi, #94 Spark-Mahindra, #2 Spark-Audi, #64 Spark-Mahindra and #16 Spark-NIO.

Of the 22 drivers who started this race, 17 finished it. Of the 17 drivers who finished this race, only DS Techeetah’s Andre Lotterer did not finish on the lead lap. He was involved in both of the incidents in which Vergne was involved.
