Max Verstappen has won both of the last two Formula 1 races at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Will he make it three in a row this weekend?

Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen has won both of the last two Formula 1 races at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, meaning that he is set to go for his third consecutive victory at the track in this Sunday’s race, the Mexican Grand Prix.

The last race at the 17-turn, 2.674-mile (4.304-kilometer) Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course in Mexico City, Mexico that was won by a driver other than Verstappen was held in October of 2016. This race was won by Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen, meanwhile, finished in third place.

In the 2017 Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen started in second place behind Scuderia Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. He took the lead from Vettel on the first lap of the 71-lap race and went on to lead all 71 of the race’s laps en route to a dominant victory.

This pass for the lead was the race’s only lead change. Verstappen finished 19.678 seconds ahead of Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport’s Valtteri Bottas in second place. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen finished in third while Vettel finished back in fourth.

In the 2018 Mexican Grand Prix, Verstappen again started in second place, but he started behind teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Once again, he took the lead on the first of the race’s 71 laps. He only failed to lead four laps of the race as a result of making his pit stop before Vettel, who led those four laps. He won the race, which featured three lead changes, by 17.316 seconds over Vettel in second while Ricciardo was forced to retire after his car suffered a clutch issue with 10 laps to go.

Will Verstappen earn his third consecutive victory at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in this Sunday’s race, or will a driver other than Verstappen win at the track for the first time since Hamilton did so in October of 2016?

Considering the fact that the high altitude of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez effectively serves as an equalizer when it comes to engine power, Verstappen and the now Honda-powered Red Bull Racing should once again have an advantage in this year’s Mexican Grand Prix.

Verstappen’s pure dominance in this race in each of the last two seasons shows that Red Bull Racing should once again have the advantage in it because of what is still a very strong chassis, and it would surprise nobody to see him earn his third consecutive victory at the track. If he does, it might as well be renamed the Max-ican Grand Prix at this point.
