Stewart Friesen overcame an early penalty to secure a spot in the 2019 NASCAR Truck Series Championship 4 with a win in the Lucas Oil 150 at ISM Raceway.

Halmar Friesen Racing’s Stewart Friesen locked up his spot in the Championship 4 of the three-round, seven-race 2019 NASCAR Truck Series playoffs with a victory in the third and final race of the round of 6, the Lucas Oil 150, at ISM Raceway.

Friesen started this 150-lap race around the four-turn, 1.022-mile (1.645-kilometer) ISM Raceway oval in Avondale, Arizona in second place in his #52 Chevrolet, but he took the green flag as the leader ahead of polesitter Austin Hill of Hattori Racing Enterprises, meaning he was sent to the rear of the field.

But he overcame this penalty, and he won the race by 0.860 seconds over Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Brandon Jones in second place in his #51 Toyota. Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Chandler Smith finished in third in his #46 Toyota.

ThorSport Racing teammates Ben Rhodes, Grant Enfinger and Matt Crafton finished in fourth, fifth and sixth place in their #99 Ford, #98 Ford and #88 Ford, with Crafton doing enough to lock up a spot in the Championship 4.

Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Harrison Burton finished in seventh place in his #18 Toyota ahead of ThorSport Racing’s Johnny Sauter in eighth in his #13 Ford. The other two drivers who advanced to the Championship 4, Niece Motorsports’ Ross Chastain and GMS Racing’s Brett Moffitt, finished in ninth and 10th in their #45 Chevrolet and #24 Chevrolet, respectively.

This race featured eight lead changes among seven leaders, and nobody led more than one-third of the race. Friesen led 44 laps, a total that only Rhodes surpassed with 47 laps led. Jones, Smith, Sauter, GMS Racing’s Sheldon Creed, Kyle Busch Motorsports’ Todd Gilliland also led laps. Rhodes won stage one and Jones won stage two.

Despite the fact that he started the race from the pole position, Hill did not lead any laps. He finished in 13th place in his #16 Toyota, which was not enough to advance to the Championship 4. DGR-Crosley’s Tyler Ankrum, who finished in 26th in his #17 Toyota, also did not advance.

This race featured five caution flag periods, and 27 of the 32 driver who started it finished it, with 16 finishing it on the lead lap.
