Cole Custer has been tipped to replace Daniel Suarez at Stewart-Haas Racing for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
There has been ongoing speculation about Daniel Suarez’s future with Stewart-Haas Racing for beyond the conclusion of the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series season after he failed to qualify for this year’s playoffs and is still seeking his first career victory in 107 starts.
The 27-year-old Mexican also failed to qualify for the playoffs in both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, his first two seasons in the series, driving for Joe Gibbs Racing while all three of his teammates competed in the playoffs in both seasons.
His best finish at Joe Gibbs Racing was his second place finish in the July race at Pocono Raceway in the 2018 season, and his better finish in the championship standings was his 20th place finish in the 2017 season.

Once again this year, all three of his teammates qualified for the playoffs, this time at Stewart-Haas Racing. Meanwhile, he sits in 17th place in the championship standings with four top five finishes and 11 top 10 finishes, including top finishes of third place in both races at Texas Motor Speedway, through the 36-race season’s first 35 races.
Now, according to a report by Motorsport, Suarez will be replaced behind the wheel of the #41 Ford after just one season by Cole Custer, who currently drives for Stewart-Haas Racing in the Xfinity Series. An official announcement is expected to be made within a week. Assuming this move takes place, Suarez would be left without a ride while Stewart-Haas Racing would be set for their fourth consecutive season with an offseason driver change.
It was initially believed that the 21-year-old Ladera Ranch, California native would land at Go Fas Racing when it was first rumored that Go Fas Racing may form a technical alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing ahead of next year. This technical alliance will indeed be formed, but Go Fas Racing ruled out Custer driving the #32 Ford from the start.
Cole Custer is currently in the midst of a breakout season in his third season of full-time competition in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Having entered the season with two career victories, he has won seven races so far this season, and he is set to compete in the Championship 4 at Homestead-Miami Speedway for the second consecutive year this weekend.
