IndyCar: Helio Castroneves also to compete in Indianapolis Grand Prix
By Asher Fair
In addition to competing in the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500, Helio Castroneves is also set to compete at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course in the 2020 IndyCar season.
Confirmation was recently made that Helio Castroneves is indeed slated to return to Team Penske behind the wheel of the #3 Chevrolet for the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 in the 2020 IndyCar season.
Castroneves has not competed full-time at the highest level of American open-wheel racing since 2017, but he has competed in the 200-lap race around the four-turn, 2.5-mile (4.023-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval both times that it has been contested since then.
He has also competed in the race leading up to the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing” at the Brickyard in each of the last two seasons, with that being the race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.

The 44-year-old Brazilian is set to compete in this race, now the GMR Grand Prix, once again in 2019 as well.
This race around the 13-turn, 2.439-mile (3.925-kilometer) Indianapolis Motor Speedway natural terrain road course was added to the schedule in 2014, and Castroneves has competed in the first six editions of it.
He has had a lot of success at the track for somebody without a win there, recording five consecutive top six finishes from 2014 to 2018, including finishes of third and second place in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
However, last season, an unforced error coming out of the pits mired him deep in the pack, and he was unable to recover, finishing in 21st place, two laps off the lead lap. His average finish at the track still more than impressive at 7.17.
The GMR Grand Prix is the fifth of 17 races on the 2020 IndyCar schedule, and it is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 9. It is set to be broadcast live on NBC from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.
