NASCAR: Daniel Suarez tipped to land Gaunt Brothers Racing ride
By Asher Fair
With Parker Kligerman out, Daniel Suarez has been tipped to land at Gaunt Brothers Racing for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season.
Out of a ride for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series season after Stewart-Haas Racing confirmed that rookie Cole Custer would replace him behind the wheel of the #41 Ford, Daniel Suarez had been rumored to land at the Richard Childress Racing Xfinity Series team.
Until recently.
A new report emerged stating that the 28-year-old Mexican could end up staying in the Cup Series and competing full-time for Gaunt Brothers Racing with support from Toyota and financial backing from Coca-Cola.

This report made sense considering the fact that Suarez had raised “millions” in sponsorship funding to try to land a second season with Stewart-Haas Racing before he was ultimately released anyway.
Now this deal looks like it could become official within the next few days.
Parker Kligerman confirmed on Friday that he will not be returning to Gaunt Brothers Racing for the 2020 season after driving for them in four of their 22 races in the 2018 season and then serving as their primary driver in the 2019 season, competing in 14 of their 15 races and only not competing in the 15th due to prior obligations with NBC in his role as a NASCAR analyst for NBC Sports Network.
Gaunt Brothers Racing have competed in the Cup Series since the 2017 season and have made 38 starts in 39 attempts over the last three years. While they do not have a charter and will not acquire one with all 36 charters being used in 2020, they are slated to change that this year as the 37th confirmed full-time entry in the field.
According to Toby Christie, a deal between Gaunt Brothers Racing and Suarez has been reached for the entire 36-race season and could be announced officially as soon as Monday, ending several months of speculation regarding where he will end up in 2020.
Suarez, who competed with Toyota at Joe Gibbs Racing in the 2017 and 2018 seasons before making the move to Stewart-Haas Racing after he was replaced by Martin Truex Jr., is still seeking his first victory after 108 career starts, and he is still seeking his first playoff appearance as well.
His best individual race finish is second place in the July race at Pocono Raceway in the 2018 season, and he finished in a career-high 17th place in the championship standings in the 2019 season as the highest non-playoff driver.
Gaunt Brothers Racing have recently been one of the better backmarker teams, even as a part-time operation and one of the newest teams in the NASCAR Cup Series field. Can they make a further step up with Daniel Suarez behind the wheel for the entire 2020 season, provided this deal is confirmed as expected?
