More changes have been made to the 2020 IndyCar schedule amid the coronavirus pandemic, and there may be additional ones on the way.

The coronavirus pandemic has already caused there to be several major changes to the 2020 IndyCar schedule, and just after the series solidified a 15-race schedule that actually featured dates for all 15 races, there have been additional changes.

There are no guarantees that these will be the finals changes, either.

The streets of Toronto, Ontario at Exhibition Place were scheduled to host the fifth race of this revised schedule on Sunday, July 12. But because of the pandemic, the city canceled the race, although there is still a desire to find a new date for it later in the year.

That brought the schedule down to 14 races. It moved back up to 15, but then it dropped to 14 again.

According to RACER, Road America, which was scheduled to host the second race of the season on Sunday, June 21, is set to replace Exhibition Place on the schedule, and with a doubleheader.

The 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) natural terrain road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin is now set to host a race on Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12. But these races won’t be the fourth and fifth races of the season. They are set to be the third and fourth.

Why? Because the race at Richmond Raceway, which had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 27, has now been canceled, and there is no plan in place to reschedule it.

Races at Barber Motorsports Park, Long Beach, Circuit of the Americas and Belle Isle (two) were already canceled, while races at St. Petesrburg, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval (Indy 500) were already postponed.

Additionally, IndyCar already created two doubleheaders at Iowa Speedway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and they added a second race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course a few months after its first scheduled event.

The 2020 IndyCar season is scheduled to get underway on Saturday, June 6 at Texas Motor Speedway with the Genesys 300, which is set to be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. The break between the season’s first and second races is currently 28 days following these new developments.
