The confirmation of the 2020 IndyCar season finale means that the updated 15-race schedule now contains dates for every race.

IndyCar confirmed Wednesday that the 2020 IndyCar season is now scheduled to end where it was once scheduled to begin: on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida.

IndyCar’s most recent schedule overhaul amid the coronavirus pandemic came back in early April, and it produced a 15-race schedule that included a second race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course as the final race with a scheduled date (Saturday, October 3), but that was only the 14th race on the schedule.

That is because a race on the streets of St. Petersburg was the official yet non-scheduled season finale.

Now the 2020 season is officially scheduled to reach a conclusion on Sunday, October 25 at the 14-turn, 1.8-mile (2.897-kilometer) temporary street circuit on the streets of St. Petersburg.

Before the pandemic, it had been scheduled to end on Sunday, September 20 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Unfortunately for a number of the other races that have been removed from the schedule, they did not land additional race dates. Races at Barber Motorsports Park and Circuit of the Americas were completely wiped off the calendar, as was the race on the streets of Long Beach, California and the two races on the streets of Belle Isle Park in Detroit, Michigan.

Fortunately, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course, Iowa Speedway and WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca landed second race dates, and the Indianapolis 500 was only postponed, not canceled.

Of course, everything remains subject to change given the situation with which we have been dealing for the past several months. As far as when fans may be back in the grandstands, all we know for sure is that it won’t be for the season opener at Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday, June 6.

Here is an updated 2020 IndyCar schedule, complete with dates for each of the 15 races on it.
