Harrison Burton has started the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season with 10 consecutive top 10 finishes, an all-time rookie record. Carl Edwards previously held the record.

Carl Edwards’s rookie record streak of nine consecutive top 10 finishes to start a NASCAR Xfinity Series season has been broken.

After 15 seasons, the record that had been held by the Roush Racing driver now belongs to Joe Gibbs Racing’s Harrison Burton.

Burton finished Sunday’s Contender Boats 250 at Homestead-Miami Speedway in eighth place, giving him 10 consecutive top 10 finishes to start the season.

Edwards’s streak from the 2005 season came to an end with a 33rd place finish at Talladega Superspeedway.

Through the 2020 season’s first 10 races, Burton has not finished in lower than ninth place. He finished in a season-low ninth at Darlington Raceway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. His average finish so far this season is a series-best 4.60, and he sits in third place in the championship standings behind JR Motorsports’ Noah Gragson and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Chase Briscoe.

Burton secured the first victory of his Xfinity Series career back on Leap Day at Auto Club Speedway to become the first driver born in the 21st century to win a race in the series, and he was victorious for the second time in yesterday’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Edwards won one race at Atlanta Motor Speedway during his nine-race top 10 streak, and his average finish was 5.56, although unlike Burton, he did lead the championship standings after the ninth race of his streak.

Burton has now finished in the top 10 in 12 consecutive races going back to last year. While he was competing full-time for Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series last season, he made several starts for Joe Gibbs Racing’s Xfinity Series team late in the year. He finished in seventh place at Texas Motor Speedway and 10th at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

The next race on the 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series schedule is the Unhinged 300, which is scheduled to take place at Talladega Superspeedway on Saturday, June 20. This race is set to be broadcast live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET. Burton has never competed at Talladega Superspeedway in the Xfinity Series, although he did finish in 11th place in the Truck Series race at the track last October.
