NASCAR: Clint Bowyer advances to All-Star Race
By Asher Fair
Clint Bowyer has advanced to the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race by winning the NASCAR Fan Vote after coming up shy in the All-Star Open.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Clint Bowyer was unable to qualify for the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race by winning a Cup Series championship, winning a Cup Series race in the 2019 and/or 2020 seasons, winning a past All-Star Race or winning one of the three stages of tonight’s All-Star Open.
But he did win the NASCAR Fan Vote, and that secured him a spot to compete for $1 million at “The Last Great Colosseum”.
Bowyer is set to compete in tonight’s 140-lap main event around the four-turn. 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee in his #14 Ford, and he is set to start on the back row of the 20-car field alongside Joe Gibbs Racing’s Martin Truex Jr.

Truex took the pole position for this race via a random draw on Monday evening, but his #19 Toyota failed pre-race inspection twice, which will send him to the rear of the field.
Bowyer finished the three stages of the 85-lap All-Star Open in sixth, fourth and second place, respectively.
It was believed that the NASCAR Fan Vote would come down to Bowyer and Richard Petty Motorsports’ Bubba Wallace. Bowyer was the overall winner, but even if Wallace would have won it, Bowyer would have advanced to the All-Star Race, since Wallace’s #43 Chevrolet was involved in a wreck during the All-Star Open and would not have been able to compete tonight anyway.
Stewart-Haas Racing’s Aric Almirola, Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron and Wood Brothers Racing’s Matt DiBenedetto won the three stages of the 85-lap All-Star Open.
Tune in to Fox Sports 1 for the live broadcast of the All-Star Race from Bristol Motor Speedway beginning tonight at 8:30 p.m. ET.
