NASCAR: The best and worst changes to the 2021 schedule
Good change: Road America
Date: Sunday, July 4 | Race 20 of 36
Road America is a great road course for the NASCAR Cup Series to make a trip to for the first time since 1956 and just the second time ever.
The 14-turn, 4.048-mile (6.515-kilometer) road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin has been hosting Xfinity Series races since 2010. None of the races that the series has run there have been disappointing, and seeing the Cup Series make the trip north is something that road racing fans have asked for for quite a while.
Last year during the pandemic, seeing the fans attend the IndyCar race at Road America and have a great time doing so made me realize that fans need to be here for the Cup Series.
With this road course being one of the most famous road courses in the United States, could it also provide us with a chance to see some road course ringers?
We frequently see them in the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series. But we don’t see then a lot in the Cup Series anymore due to the charter system. Could road ringers come back for teams such as Rick Ware Racing or Spire Motorsports? How about a Kaulig Racing Chevrolet or a fourth Team Penske Ford for Austin Cindric? It will be very interesting.
