Danica Patrick reveals the worst crash of her career

Former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick discusses her worst crash and more on National Geographic’s RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS.
The show RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS is now airing its sixth season on National Geographic, and tonight’s episode features former NASCAR and IndyCar driver Danica Patrick.
In this episode, Patrick navigates the terrain of the harsh Moab desert, and she also opens up about what she considers to be the worst racing accident of her 14-year career as a professional driver.

When discussing her worst crash, an IndyCar wreck, she says she “thought [she] was in Heaven for a second” afterward.
Patrick competed in 252 NASCAR races, including 191 in the Cup Series and 61 in the Xfinity Series. She finished as high as sixth place in the Cup Series (Atlanta Motor Speedway, 2014) and fourth in the Xfinity Series (Las Vegas Motor Speedway, 2011).

Her final start in both series came at Daytona International Speedway. She retired after competing in the 2018 Daytona 500, and she did not return to the Xfinity Series after the 2014 season opener at the track.
She also competed in 116 IndyCar races, including eight Indy 500s. She won the race at Twin Ring Motegi in 2008 and finished as high as third place in the Indy 500 (2009). Her final IndyCar start came in the 2018 Indy 500.
RUNNING WILD WITH BEAR GRYLLS is set to air at 9:00 p.m. ET National Geographic, and it is set to be followed by extreme competition show RACE TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH, from the creators of THE AMAZING RACE, at 10:00 p.m. as part of National Geographic’s ADVENTURE NIGHT.
