NASCAR has canceled another race on the 2021 schedule due to logistical challenges resulting from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2020 NASCAR season was a season characterized by schedule changes, race postponements, race cancellations, replacement races, etc. as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In short, a need for flexibility was highlighted regularly as the sport managed to fit in a full 36-race Cup Series season, a full 33-race Xfinity Series season and a full 23-race Truck Series season despite an unexpected 10-week hiatus.

Unfortunately, as we saw earlier this season with the cancellation of the Cup Series and Xfinity Series race at Auto Club Speedway, there is still some flexibility needed with scheduling as a result of the pandemic.

That proved to be the case yet again today.

The Truck Series, which was indirectly impacted by the cancellation of the Auto Club Speedway races despite not being scheduled to run at the track this year, has seen one of its originally scheduled playoff races canceled.

For the second consecutive season, the round of 10 race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada will not take place. This race was scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 5, and a race at Darlington Raceway is set to be held in its place. A Cup Series race is scheduled to take place on the same day, and an Xfinity Series race is scheduled to take place the day prior.

This marks the second schedule change for the Truck Series this season stemming from the pandemic.

The Cup Series and Xfinity Series races at Auto Club Speedway were replaced by races at the Daytona International Speedway road course, but those races were contested one week before the races at Auto Club Speedway were scheduled to take place. The races at Homestead-Miami Speedway were moved back by a week to Auto Club Speedway’s original race weekend.

The Truck Series was not scheduled to race at Auto Club Speedway, but it ended up racing at the Daytona International Speedway road course instead of Homestead-Miami Speedway to coincide with the Xfinity Series and Cup Series races at the venue. The series did not travel to Homestead-Miami Speedway with the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series the following weekend as initially scheduled.

This race is the 10th of 15 on the regular season schedule and the 10th of 22 on the full schedule.
